First Technical Systems is looking for a Low Voltage Technician to install, configure, and support building security solutions including video surveillance (CCTV), access control, and intrusion detection systems. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, clean installations, and troubleshooting in the field. You’ll work with cameras, mounts, cabling, network-connected recording equipment (DVR/NVR), and (as an asset) physical security systems such as access control and intrusion detection—while following drawings, layouts, and safety standards.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
This role is primarily field-based and project-driven. You’ll work on active job sites, collaborate with project leads and other trades, and be responsible for installing, testing, and documenting security systems to meet project and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install and configure security system hardware including CCTV cameras, mounts, housings/backboxes, and associated low voltage cabling (Cat5e/Cat6, etc. as required).
Mount, aim, test, and fine-tune camera views (angles, image settings, and recording settings) to meet coverage requirements. - Install and connect DVR/NVR systems, PoE switches/injectors, power supplies, UPS/battery backup devices, and related equipment as required by the project.
Follow network layouts, device schedules, and power/route diagrams to ensure safe, clean, and effective installation. - Terminate, label, and test cabling; maintain workmanship standards (proper support, routing, strain relief, and cable management).
- Perform basic troubleshooting of camera connectivity, PoE power, network addressing, recording issues, and device communication.
- Document installations (device labels, cable IDs, basic as-built notes, photos when required) and provide basic client instruction on system use.
- Support testing, demonstration, and commissioning activities for security systems (recording/playback verification, device checks, and basic functional testing).
- Coordinate with project leads and other trades to meet timelines and maintain a professional jobsite.
- Adhere to safety protocols on all site visits (working at heights, ladders/lifts, outdoor work, and site PPE requirements).
What You Bring
You have experience working with low-voltage systems and understand the importance of following standards, drawings, and safety procedures. You’re dependable, comfortable working in active jobsite environments, and take pride in the quality of your work.
Qualifications:
- Experience installing security cameras, DVR/NVR systems, and related low-voltage cabling.
- Strong understanding of wiring standards and basic network infrastructure (PoE, switching basics, IP addressing fundamentals).
- Comfortable working with hand tools, termination tools, ladders/lifts, and general jobsite conditions.
- Ability to work outdoors and at heights when required.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Experience That’s an Asset
Some projects include physical security systems beyond CCTV. Experience in these areas is considered an asset and may be developed further with training and on-the-job support.
Assets (Physical Security Systems) — Experience & Relevant Skills:
- Experience installing building physical security systems (Access Control and Intrusion Detection).
- Access Control skills: mounting/terminating card readers, door position monitoring, request-to-exit (RTE) devices, and coordinating with door hardware devices (e.g., maglocks / electric strikes) where required.
- Intrusion Detection skills: installing/terminating keypads, motion sensors, and door contacts; supporting arming/disarming functions and basic alarm signal verification
- Integration skills: tying systems together where required (e.g., access control + CCTV + intrusion detection) and following integration requirements from drawings/specs.
- Programming/commissioning support: basic setup, device testing, and verification with client/consultant presence when required.
- Asset: Kantech Access Control (EntraPass) training/certification and/or DSC Certified training.
